Senior Program Officer
AIT Extension works with an expanding range of institutional clients, including government departments, non-governmental organizations, and commercial enterprises across the region to help them develop the management and leadership capacity of their staff.
AITE has successfully introduced high-demand professional development and executive education programs, which range from professional masters’ degrees in collaboration with AIT’s Schools to technical and professional training programs, study visit programs, professional placements, and master training courses. AITE’s programs are designed for all organizational levels, from senior management to field-level employees.
The Senior Program Officer position is an intermediate supervisory role that positions incumbents between experienced knowledge-area specialists who design programs, and entry-level staff who deliver them. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone whose career aims include a move from program delivery to program design and ultimately, to program leadership.
A Senior Program Officer will be expected to demonstrate ability and motivation to:
- Work independently with clients to identify needs, prepare proposals that respond to such needs, communicate them effectively, and negotiate cost-effective outcomes for AITE and the client;
- Fulfill applicable administrative and documentation requirements required by AIT, and facilitate clients in completing prerequisites as may be necessary for AITE to serve them;
- Mentor entry-level colleagues in building understanding of institutional norms, performance parameters, and AITE best practices, and guide them in delivering services to client;
- Support senior colleagues in the design and development of course material, identifying appropriate learning resources or experts, and delivering instructional or field-based modules;
- Advance to higher levels of responsibility and/or technical specialization in a subject area relevant to professional & executive development and AITE’s service goals; and
- Consolidate client relationships, expand resource linkages, and maintain purposeful engagement with key stakeholders to position AITE as a preferred service provider.
A. Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Unit Head and/or Course Directors in developing, designing, implementing and evaluating various offerings, particularly adding value through introducing new course topics, content, instructional material, readings/videos, field sites, and resource-persons;
- Take a lead in drafting concept notes, client proposals, marketing pitches for new courses, press/ media releases, narrative summaries of successful offerings or lessons learnt, and analytical assessments of courses or field programs run by the Unit;
- Oversee the planning and preparation of program delivery, including class schedules, field itineraries, and optimization of available course time, and compile and update all necessary background information that participants may require for an offering;
- Take responsibility for support services and logistics required for each training offering, including processing third party contracts for services as well as their satisfactory execution, and coordinate the day-to-day operation of an assigned offering;
- Be available to participants and their sponsoring organizations at all times during the delivery of a training or course, and act as point-of-first-referral for participants in case of problem or unforeseen situations, and point-of-relay for the Unit Head and AIT management;
- Oversee preparation of internal budget for each offering, its requisite approval with AIT Admin, as well as backstop monitoring of financial disbursements for each offering, and share responsibility for timely completion of formalities as required by AIT Administration;
- Supervise preparation of Program Evaluation and various reports as may be required by AIT or a client, and take responsibility for their release to client after due review by Unit Head; and
- Produce newsletter updates, social media posts, articles or narrative pieces on the work of the Unit, as and when required and resourced by Unit Head or Executive Director AITE.
B. Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a discipline relevant to field of management, social sciences, development studies, economics, education, learning systems, or knowledge management;
- Preferably, professional or academic exposure to topics relevant to planning & management, curriculum & instructional design, M&E and/or research methodology;
- 3-5 years direct experience in designing and delivering professional or executive education programs / projects, with progressive rise in quantum and scale of responsibilities.
- Effective communication skills including professional-level command of written and spoken English, and preferably, a major international or regional language. Must have a minimum TOEIC score of 550.
- Demonstrable team skills, adapting to team members and participants from diverse language and cultural backgrounds, and willingness to learn from and engage with others;
- Advanced familiarity with commonly used proprietary software and applications, as well as experience of utilizing internet-based knowledge resources;
- Above-average interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, with previous cross-cultural exposure or work in non-native environments an asset; and
- Understanding of diversity values, professional norms, respect for cultural and religious differences, and a demonstrable team spirit within a culture of tolerance and collaboration.
