Call for Applications and Nominations for (Dual position) Director, Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology (COEN) and |
The Asian Institute of Technology, an autonomous non-profit international postgraduate institution based in Thailand, invites applications and confirmed nominations for the dual position of Director of the Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology (COEN) and faculty member (assistant professor, associate professor or professor) in Nanotechnology. The position is expected to be filled by 1 January 2019 or at the earliest practical date.
The Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology (COEN) is an institute-wide interdisciplinary research center that provides two core functions. The research center conducts and supports nanotechnology research and development at AIT, with research funded by government grants, industry contracts and non-governmental organizational (NGO) projects. Secondly, COEN provides curriculum, faculty and instruction to the Nanotechnology academic program. The mission of the academic program is to provide education towards the attainment of Master of Science, Master of Engineering or doctoral degrees. Professional, certificate, online and training programs in nanotechnology are also coordinated by COEN.
As COEN Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the administration of COEN in accordance with AIT policies and regulations. As chief executive of the Center, the Director leads the Center in all of its activities, including research, outreach, staffing and budgeting.
The Nanotechnology academic program is part of the Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) Department of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET). The successful candidate is also responsible, as a faculty member, to serve as leader of the nanotechnology academic program. In addition to coordinating the academic program, he or she is required to teach courses offered in the nanotechnology curriculum and to mentor master’s degree and doctoral students. This burgeoning technology area in nanotechnology at AIT, with a focus on nanomaterials engineering, provides an international level engineering program.
The successful candidate is expected to provide dynamic, visionary and creative leadership in advancing the missions of SET and AIT. The new Director/Faculty is expected to take COEN and the Nanotechnology academic program to the next levels of growth, respectively, with the objectives of making both of them sustainable.
