Purpose:
Accountable to the DDS, the PDF/RA will support and participate in MEL activities conducted by AIT for UKRI GCRF Trade, Development and the Environment Hub.
Duties/Responsibilities:
In coordination with the UNEP-WCMC Hub management team and the AIT CO-Is:
- Contribute to and possibly design M&E cross-learning tools and virtual platform for effecting progress monitoring;
- Manage the project’s MEL software, including regular update, collation of inputs and cross-checking of the data;
- Conduct MEL related capacity building trainings and workshops for project countries as needed;
- Facilitate MEL related cross-country learning initiatives as needed;
- Prepare regular project reports, work closely with international collaborators and partners on the GCRF Trade, Development and the Environment Hub;
- Conduct baseline and mid-term assessments, including with reference to the Pathways to Impact;
- Support the WP0 co-leads and UNEP-WCMC management team to ensure that the Theory of Change and Pathways to Impact are up to date, as per the evolving nature of the project;
- Prepare write-ups of relevant literature reviews, workshop outcomes, and assessment results into scientific papers;
- Present the project work at national and international conferences;
- Write up the findings from the project for websites and submission to leading international journals;
- Any other duties as allocated by the line managers following consultation with the post holder.
Qualifications:
- PhD (or close to completion) in quantitative social science. Candidates with strong professional background but without a PhD may be considered for a position of Research Associate;
- Demonstrated experience of designing and implementing M&E systems in a development context;
- Strong data collection and management skills. Familiarity with MS Excel and ideally with M&E softwares;
- Experience with data analysis techniques. Proficiency in a statistical package such as IBM-SPSS, STATA, and/or R is a plus;
- Ability to conceptualise research themes and conduct relevant literature research;
- Ability to work as part of a team;
- Ability to summarise literature and write project reports;
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and respect deadlines;
- Ability to plan and organise field work with assistance from the department’s administrative office;
- Ability to prepare material for public presentation;
- Ability/willingness to travel, including to resource poor locations;
- A record of a couple of peer-reviewed publications is a plus;
- A good command of English, both oral and written. Knowledge of other languages of the project countries would be an advantage.
