General Summary

Supervise overall function and operation of the Hydraulics laboratories; assist in teaching laboratory courses, provide technical support and guidance to master and doctoral students in their lab and field research works, prepare proposals for laboratory research projects, carry out sponsored research projects contracted by the laboratory and support FoS and school in other activities.

Job Description

  • Support in teaching of regular courses and student research activities.
  • Lecturer for experimental methods part of the regular laboratory course CE74.15-Research Design and Experimental Methods.
  • Laboratory presentations/demonstrations to support regular courses. 
  • Organize student field trips as part of student learning.
  • Prepare project proposals, perform laboratory tests and draft technical reports for commercial tests carried out in the laboratory.
  • Carry out regular check-up of hydraulics laboratory facilities and propose/implement necessary repairs, maintenance and upgrading.
  • Prepare equipment purchase/upgrade proposals and carry out comprehensive assessment of the instruments features and capabilities prior to purchase.
  • Maintain the general inventory system of the hydraulics laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Prepare annual budget for the laboratory (expected income and expenses).
  • Provide presentation and demonstration of WEM laboratory facilities, services and ongoing research to visitors of FoS and/or the school.
  • Support in monitoring the overall condition of school and FoS infrastructures including preparation of proposals for repair and renovation works.
  • Support activities organized by the FoS and/or school.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in the field of Water Engineering and Management with Civil Engineering background.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and instrumentation, as well as laboratory experimental methods and procedures.
  • High proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Good knowledge of related computer programs and applications.
  • Ability to write project proposals and technical project reports.
  • Ability to make accurate observations and written reports of test results
  • Ability to relate well with people of various nationalities
