TEACHER LIBRARIAN

The position of Teacher Librarian is under the direct supervision of the Principal of AITIS. Teacher Librarian will work for the benefit of the children of AITIS. They develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of children, according to age, ability, and aptitude.

Teacher Librarian interacts with colleagues, students, administrators, and parents in a way that demonstrates commitment to AITIS Values, Mission statement, and Educational principles.

AITIS working hours are from 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Teachers are not expected to take leave during school time.

Duties may include but are not limited, to:

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organizing and managing the Library, ensuring its effective use by classes, groups and individuals.
  • Creating and implementing a policy for the Library which incorporates the educational aims and objectives of the school, and complies with data protection and the school's disciplinary code.
  • Contributing to curriculum and policy development by liaising with individual members of the teaching staff.
  • Selecting, acquiring, organizing, and promoting Library resources to support teaching and learning throughout the school.
  • Ensuring equality of access for all pupils and staff to high quality learning resources.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the service provided by the Library and its impact on teaching and learning.
  • Supervising pupils using the Library for independent study and maintaining a welcoming, supportive atmosphere conducive to positive learning experiences.
  • Supporting and advising staff and pupils in the selection and use of information resources to support their curricular needs.
  • Promoting reading and the enjoyment of reading in all its forms.
  • Promoting and publicizing the services provided by the Library to the whole school community.
  • To provide support to teaching staff in the creation of classroom resources.Monitoring and evaluating the on-going progress and keeping up-to-date records of all his/her students
  • Cataloging and covering new books in the Library
  • Processing the books that children borrow and return
  • Participating in regular staff meetings and other meetings necessary for the smooth running of the school
  • Contributing to the development of AITIS
  • Familiarizing himself/herself with the AITIS Staff Handbook.
  • Able to motivate students to develop reading habit.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 2 years active experience as a librarian
  • Provide references and motivate children to develop love for reading
  • Flexibility and ability to take initiative in upgrading the school library
  • Experience in using library software for cataloging
  • Creating library policy and promoting library use
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
